Had it worked nowhere, I probably would have tried resetting the password earlier, and was dumbfounded as to why the technically correct, working everywhere else, password wouldn't work (stopped working) with Workbench.Īnyway, this is at lease a note to myself in case I ever run across a similar strangeness again. I found it strange that the password worked everywhere, except for connecting to the database via Workbench. It dumps one or more MySQL databases for backup or transfer to another SQL server. The mysqldump client utility performs logical backups, producing a set of SQL statements that can be executed to reproduce the original database object definitions and table data. Turns out that I was not even using a putty generated key for this particular connection, despite the message. 4.5.4 mysqldump A Database Backup Program. Password for MySQL did not need to change. Updating the master server password (everywhere) fixed the issue. Oddly once I clicked to "edit" the master password on my server, I saw that the current password did not match their new password requirements. While my password still worked for connecting via FTP, MySQL Workbench could not connect to the database. It seems they changed the format for (new) master password to the server my website & database are on. I had been successfully making the connection for years. You can distinguish between the two types of keys by viewing them in any text editor and reading the first line. I was then able to connect to the MySQL server using the RSA private key. Make sure you backup your OpenSSH private key beforehand as this will override id_rsa. ssh-keygen -p -m PEM -f C:/Users/username/.ssh/id_rsa The solution here was to convert the OpenSSH private key to an RSA private key. I set the location of the key to C:/Users/username/.ssh/id_rsa and received the error. I try to access the MySQL database using an OpenSSH generated private key. The solution here of course was to regenerate the keys. I deleted the corresponding public key (mistakenly) from my server then tried to re-connect and received the error. I gained access to the MySQL database successfully using a private key generated by my server (I am using CPanel). The issue occurred in two different scenarios. Add the path of bin directory ( c:\mysql-5.6.I had a similar issue connecting to MySQL and wanted to share my solution in case anyone else ends up here.Update (to run as service automatic at system restart) To gracefully stop the MySQL server instance, open a "Command Prompt", again inside bin, and run mysqladmin.exe -u root shutdown You can use this info when you connect from Navicat and when you setup the datasource in CF Administrator. I suggest to keep this window open or minimized, but is not necessary for MySQL to keep running in background.īy default it runs on localhost, port 3306 with a user root with no password. Now, from a "Command Prompt", you can go inside bin with cd c:\mysql-5.6.41-win圆4\bin and run mysqld.exe, you'll see something like starting as process 16424. When you unzip you end up with something like this You can download a zip archive of MySQL 5.6 from here ( ) So, I haven't connected any Coldfusion DSNs yet or executed any queries, but I am fairly sure, everything should work! I was able to connect Navicat GUI to the server, without any problems and, of course, the installer by default, sets MySQL up as a Windows Service, to automatically start after a computer restart. And then I used the 'Developer' computer option on the next screen and that's it! The set up takes about 20 seconds and keeps the file count to a bare minimum. So, I tried out some of the options and found that the simplest was actually to use the installer, but rather than use the 'Developer' instance on the first screen, I chose the 'Server' instance, instead, which, surprise surprise, just installs the MySQL server and nothing else. In the past, I have been overwhelmed by the amount of modules & pre installation config.Ĭan someone provide me with an installation routine that uses the bare minimum of config? In fact, I want to install the bare minimum, so that I can just connect a database with my Coldfusion queries: I use Navicat for interfacing with MySQL. I am looking to install MySQL Server 5.6 without Workbench.
